Respite Care

Who is it for?

Respite care at Ridgegate Home is designed for elderly individuals whose family members or carers need a temporary break from caring responsibilities. This could be for a holiday, to recover from illness, to attend to other commitments, or simply to rest and recharge.

Respite care is also valuable for individuals considering a permanent move to residential care. A short stay allows them to experience life at Ridgegate Home, meet our staff and residents, and understand what residential care offers before making a longer-term decision.

Our smaller community of up to 23 residents ensures a welcoming, home-like atmosphere where respite guests quickly feel comfortable and settled. Many families use our respite care regularly, returning several times a year.

Respite Care

Our Approach

Our care teams provide respite guests with the same level of expert care and attention as permanent residents. We offer flexible stays from a few days to a few weeks, depending on your needs.

Each respite guest receives a personalised care assessment on arrival, ensuring we understand their individual needs, preferences, routines and medication requirements. This allows us to provide consistent, familiar care that helps them settle quickly and feel at home.

During their stay, respite guests have full access to our facilities, activities programme, and social opportunities. Our kitchen team prepares nutritious, home-cooked meals daily, our activities coordinator provides varied entertainment and events, and our care team is available 24 hours a day.

We encourage families to visit during respite stays, and we maintain regular communication to update you on your loved one's wellbeing. Our beautiful period property offers comfortable rooms (most with en-suite facilities), peaceful communal areas, and attractive gardens to explore.

As a registered charity established in 1946, we provide care focused on quality and wellbeing, not profit.

TESTIMONIALS

What people say about us...

My dad has lived at Ridgegate Home for just over a year now and I couldn't be happier with the level of care he receives. Ridgegate is a friendly family home and is a lovely place to visit at any time of the day. My dad suffers with both physical and mental health issues and I am grateful to the attentive staff who make sure he is included in the many home activities.
I have no hesitation in recommending Ridgegate to others.

Respite care for mum went well and provided opportunity for a much needed break. All staff were helpful and courteous and mum was happy with her experience. She was able to get her hair done whilst there and made friends with many of the residents. Thanks for taking care of her!

The important questions

What is respite care?

Respite care is temporary residential care for elderly or disabled people, designed to give families and carers a break from the everyday demands of providing care. Stays can range from a few days to a few weeks. During their stay, the individual receives professional care and support with daily tasks such as dressing, washing, medication management and meals. They also benefit from social activities, companionship, and a change of environment in our safe, comfortable home. To learn more about the respite care we offer, get in touch with our team today on 01737 242926.

Who is respite care for?

Respite care is for elderly individuals whose family members or carers need a temporary break, whether for a holiday, to recover from illness, to attend to other commitments, or simply to rest. It's also valuable for those considering permanent residential care, as it provides an opportunity to experience care home life before making a long-term decision.

When is respite care needed?

Respite care may be needed when family carers need a break to maintain their own health and wellbeing, during family holidays, following a carer's illness or surgery, or during particularly demanding periods. Regular planned respite can help prevent carer burnout and sustain long-term caring arrangements. We recommend booking respite care in advance, particularly during popular periods. Contact us on 01737 242926 to discuss availability and arrange a stay.

What funding and support is available for respite care?

Funding options for respite care may include local authority support for eligible individuals, carer's assessments that can identify respite needs and potential funding, or private payment. Some carers may be entitled to financial support through direct payments or personal budgets. Our respite care fees are competitive for the Reigate area. We can provide guidance on funding options available and help you understand what support you may be entitled to. Contact us to arrange a consultation where we can discuss costs and funding in detail.
